Honorary Doctorate of the WSB University for Prof. Dr. Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik

On 30 June 2023, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the WSB University was awarded to Prof. Dr Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik - Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Educational Studies for Doctoral Students and International Cooperation at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, member of the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, former Chairperson of the Scientific Council of the Educational Research Institute, an outstanding scholar in the field of social sciences in the discipline of pedagogy, author of many excellent monographs on the sociology of education and cultural studies.

During the ceremony we were honoured with the presence of representatives of universities and the academic community, among others:

During the entire ceremony, Prof. Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik was accompanied by her large family, including her husband, Prof. Zbyszko Melosik, Dr h.c. multi - Vice-Rector for Social Relations at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Daughter Weronika and Son Zbyszko Junior.

- It is an honour for WSB University that the title of doctor honoris causa is being accepted by Professor Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik," said the Rector of WSB University, Prof. Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, opening the ceremony. - The researcher excellently combines the development of the scientific discipline of pedagogy and the field of social sciences with activities for education, emancipation and empowerment through and by education. She builds relationships of recognition in pedagogy, in the social sciences, at all possible levels: at the level of her research, publications, organisational, environmental and teaching activities. This makes him an extraordinary Person.

In the course of the ceremony, a laudation was delivered by prof. dr hab. Mirosława Nowak-Dziemianowicz - a member of the Committee on Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Chair of the Educational Policy Committee and the Critical Pedagogy Section of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Chair of the Polish Pedagogical Association, the Dąbrowa Górnicza Branch, the Head of the Doctoral Seminar in the discipline of pedagogy at the WSB University, the Director of the Interdisciplinary Workshop for Contemporary Problems in the Humanities at the WSB University, an outstanding specialist in the field of education, upbringing, school and relations between people, intimate relations, marriage, family.

The reviewers in the proceedings for the conferment of the highest academic dignity of the WSB University with the title of doctor honoris causa were:

Prof. dr hab. Beata Przyborowska - Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Chairperson of the Scientific Council of the University Centre for Support and Personal Development, an outstanding pedagogue, dealing with general pedagogy, school theory, pedagogical innovation and anthropological foundations of upbringing.

Prof. Bogusław Śliwerski, Ph.D. multi - member of the Council for Scientific Excellence of the first term, Ordinary Member of the Łódź Scientific Society, Head of the Department of the Theory of Education at the University of Łódź, Head of the Department of Comparative Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education Sciences at the University of Łódź, Chairman of the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the years 2011-2020. Member of scientific councils of several pedagogical periodicals and editor-in-chief of the scientific periodical "Studia z Teorii Wychowania" published by the Christian Academy of Theology in Warsaw, an outstanding pedagogue, specialist in general pedagogy, upbringing theory, comparative pedagogy, discourse analysis, pedeutology.

The gala was enhanced by performances by the WSB University International Choir under the baton of Ms Elżbieta Kaźmierska, the Choir of the University of Economics in Katowice under the baton of Director Mr Michał Brożek, and Łukasz Szubski - an outstanding pianist, known for his Dombrova Piano Duo.
