XII Silesian Academic Sports Gala 2022

The 12th Silesian Academic Sports Gala was held today at the Auditorium Maximum of the WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza. During the ceremony, awards were presented to the best universities of the 2021/2022 Silesian Academic Championships, including the WSB University. The event was also an opportunity to summarise the past season of the Polish Academic Championships.

The development of the WSB Universitiy's Academic Sports Association is part of two of the five strategic directions of the university's development set by the JM Rector of the WSB University, Dr Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, prof. AWSB.

The Gala was led by:

• Marcin Bazylak - President of Dąbrowa Górnicza,
• Bogusław Oleksy - President of AZS Katowice,
• Beata Widawska - Vice-President of AZS Katowice,
• asoc. prof. Marcin Lis, prof. AWSB - Vice-rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation with the Environment of the AWSB University.

The WSB University Academic Sports Association won 1st place in the Classification of Non-Public Universities in Silesia and 4th place in the General Classification of the Academic Championships of Silesia in the academic year 2021/2022. We competed against 19 universities and scored over 550 points.

WSBU Academic Sports Association includes:

135 members, competing in 38 sports
50 sports scholarships in the current academic year
participation in 7 central competitions of the Academic Championships of Poland

The Gala included the awarding of Bronze Indices to athletes who are also students of the WSB University in the fields of IT and management. The students were presented with their Bronze Indices by assoc. prof. Marcin Lis, prof. AWSB - Prorector for Students and Cooperation with the Environment of the WSB University, and Mr Kamil Kowal - President of the Management Board of MKS Będzin S.A.

Bronze Indeksy were awarded to:

• Maciej Ptaszyński,
• Jakub Pasik,
• Łukasz Usowicz.

The presentation of Bronze Indices is the result of the cooperation between the WSB University and the sports club MKS Będzin S.A.

The Academic Sports Association of the WSB University was established in 2001 on the initiative of first-year students of Management and Marketing. In 2003, a modern sports complex for students and players of the AZS sports sections was put into use. In the following years, thanks to the activities of the AZS, the WSBU was recognised as the most sport-oriented university in the Silesian Voivodeship in the classifications of Non-Public Higher Education Institutions, and the AZS was repeatedly awarded in the general classification of the Silesian Academic Championships.
