On November 13 and 14, a two-day conference "Prospects of building the new infrastructure capacity on the freight corridors in EU-Ukraine border area" was held at the WSB University.
The international event was held within the framework of the project "Increasing the capacity of freight transportation infrastructure on EU-Ukraine borders" (No. 22220189) implemented under the Visegrad Grant+ Program.
The event was co-organized by project partners SI "Institute of Regional Research named after M.I. Dolishniy of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine", Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, University of Debrecen (Hungary) and University of Oradea (Romania).
The international conference was held in a hybrid format (offline and online) and brought together representatives of the academic community and practitioners in the field of freight transportation from 13 countries. The main purpose of the event was to discuss and exchange ideas on the development of freight corridor infrastructure along the Ukraine-EU border. Particular attention was paid to the development of logistics routes for cargo transport, increasing the capacity of border infrastructure, promoting multimodal transport in Ukraine and neighboring EU countries, as well as the implementation of green technologies and innovations in freight transport and multimodal terminals.
The conference was inaugurated by the ceremonial signing of an agreement between WSB University, SI "Institute of Regional Research named after M.I. Dolishniy NAS of Ukraine" and the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. This was followed by congratulations from the Director of the WSB Institute for Territorial and Inter-Organizational Cooperation in Poland, Prof. Dr. Joanna Kurowska-Pysz; the Deputy Director for Research of the Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Prof. Dr. Iryna Storonyanska; and the Project Coordinator, Head of the Cross-Border Cooperation Sector, Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khrystyna Prytula.
Participants of the international conference discussed various aspects of infrastructure development of freight corridors on the Ukrainian-EU border. Prospects and opportunities for further development of cross-border cooperation were also considered during the discussion. In the final part of the event, the project partners identified further directions for joint research and highlighted the prospects for the implementation of a future joint project.
