Online lecture by Dr. Ambassador Paula Dobriansky of Harvard University

Today we had a lecture by Dr Ambassador Paula Dobriansky on the future of US transatlantic relations. The topic of the lecture is very timely and it was very interesting in view of the tragic events that are currently unfolding in Ukraine.

The lecture focused on several key issues that have been the subject of discussion and controversy in European politics. Issues of divisions within Europe were raised. There have been some splits within the transatlantic community on issues such as energy and energy independence. Ambassador Dobriabnsky also mentioned France, which has proposed a number of measures that affect the entire transatlantic community. Among others, France has called for an independent European army as part of the EU strategy, and we will discuss these issues. The issues of Ukraine and Russia's brutal and unwarranted, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine were also raised. It was explained what this means for transatlantic relations and where this is going in terms of this conflict.

The Ambassador also focused on the issue of Poland, which is a strategic partner of the United States and also plays a very important leadership role in the European Union in the organisation and cooperation for security in Europe, and certainly in relation to NATO. All these issues were also defined in the context of rivalry between great powers.

The lecture found a wide response, the students had many interesting questions, which Dr. Ambassador Dobriansky answered.

The lecture was realized within the project "The impact of US foreign policy on the future of the transatlantic partnership", which was co-financed by the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowską Metropolię within the framework of the Programme "Metropolitan Fund for the Support of Science" in 2019-2022.
