The Knowledge Base contains information about ongoing scientific, research, and implementation work, as well as publications, reports from publicly funded research, defended doctoral dissertations, teaching activities, and completed bachelor’s and master’s theses. The system records information about the scientific achievements of staff, doctoral students, and students, collected in accordance with the requirements established for the evaluation of employees and research units. The Repository, which constitutes an important part of the system, archives in digital form the full texts of materials documenting the conducted work, including monographs, articles, book chapters, and reports, as well as texts of works that serve as the basis for awarding academic degrees and titles. Access to these works may only be restricted by the conditions specified in agreements between the authors and the holders of economic rights to the work (publishers, research funding institutions).
The purpose of creating the Knowledge Base is to ensure easy access to information about the directions and results of ongoing research, the specialization of individual organizational units, and academic staff. The system, which serves as a communication platform with other scientific centers and institutions funding research, has been gradually made available since 2013. The accuracy and completeness of the data collected in the system are the responsibility of the organizational units engaged in scientific, research, and educational activities.
The concept and technical design of the Knowledge Base were developed at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of the Warsaw University of Technology as part of the PASSIM project (implemented under the SYNAT research task funded by the National Centre for Research and Development – NCBiR). The Main Library is responsible for organizing activities related to the project’s implementation, such as preparing the legal framework for deployment, conducting training sessions, and verifying data in previously existing databases of scientific output (the task was co-financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education – MNiSW).
