A New Iron Curtain? Tensions on the Polish, Belarusian, and Ukrainian Borders and Their Impact on International Security

Ilustracja aktualności: A New Iron Curtain? Tensions on the Polish, Belarusian, and Ukrainian Borders and Their Impact on International Security

The borders between Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus are the meeting point of two distinct political and security orders. Dr. Karol Kujawa will discuss how the situation on this part of NATO’s eastern flank affects global security during his lecture “A New Iron Curtain? Tensions on the Polish-Ukrainian-Belarusian Border and Its Implications for International Security”, organized by the Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies (CREEES) at Stanford Global Studies.

A lecturer at WSB University, affiliated with the Academic Center for Strategic Analysis (ACAS) at the War Studies University in Warsaw, Dr. Karol Kujawa will analyze the situation on NATO’s eastern flank, where the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine intersect with migration pressure from Belarus and growing economic tensions.

The lecture will address, among other topics, the openness of the Polish-Ukrainian border during the first months of the war, the role of cheap Ukrainian grain in domestic disputes, and the use of migration as a tool of destabilization by the regime in Minsk.

The event aims to show how developments in this border region affect the security of the entire continent and why this area is increasingly being referred to as the “new Iron Curtain.”
