Development, Internationalisation and Research. New Leadership of Collegium Medicum – the Faculty of Medicine at WSB University

Prof. Marek Krzystanek and Prof. Michał Zembala are assuming Vice-Rector positions associated with the development and internationalisation of Collegium Medicum – the Faculty of Medicine at WSB University. Tomasz Gąsior, PhD, DSc, Associate Professor at WSB University, will chair the Medical Sciences Discipline Council. These are three areas essential to building the University’s capacity in medical education, research and international cooperation.

The development of medical education requires combining an academic perspective with the needs of clinical practice. Equally important are cross-border cooperation and an academic environment in which new research questions and solutions for healthcare emerge. The new roles at WSB University address these complementary areas.

Prof. Marek Krzystanek, PhD, DSc in Medical and Health Sciences, is assuming the role of Vice-Rector for the Development of Collegium Medicum – the Faculty of Medicine. The development of this part of the University involves both improving the conditions for educating future medical professionals and strengthening the links between teaching, research and professional practice. Contemporary medical education must take into account patients’ changing needs, advances in knowledge and the growing role of new technologies in diagnosis and treatment.

Prof. Michał Zembala, PhD, DSc in Medical and Health Sciences, is assuming the role of Vice-Rector for the Internationalisation of Collegium Medicum – the Faculty of Medicine. The international dimension of medicine is particularly significant: the exchange of knowledge and experience provides opportunities to learn about different approaches to education, research and the organisation of patient care. International cooperation also creates opportunities to establish academic and clinical contacts and undertake joint research initiatives.

Tomasz Gąsior, PhD, DSc in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at WSB University, is assuming the role of Chair of the Medical Sciences Discipline Council. This area involves developing research activity and building a research community within the discipline. A strong research foundation is an important element of medical education: it supports the critical analysis of knowledge, the formulation of research questions and the search for answers to problems arising in clinical practice.

The development of Collegium Medicum, its internationalisation and the strengthening of medical sciences establish a shared perspective for WSB University’s further development in the field of medicine. They are united by the pursuit of building a university in which the education of future healthcare professionals remains closely connected to research and practical experience.
