On 21 May, the 5th Janusz Korczak Award Gala took place at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw. The Korczak Award Gala is organized by the Korczak University in cooperation with the International Janusz Korczak Association (IKA).
The purpose of the Award is to promote the ideas of Janusz Korczak and support change in education by recognizing institutions and individuals who are guided by Korczak’s values and put them into practice, create modern and courageous educational solutions, consistently support the agency and rights of children and safeguard those rights, support children and families in difficult situations, or create environments conducive to a happy childhood.
This year, a graduate of the doctoral seminar in Pedagogy at WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza, who obtained his doctoral degree in March 2026 (dissertation supervised by Professor Mirosława Nowak-Dziemianowicz), nominated his mother for the Award. He did so in recognition of her quiet heroism every day while raising eight children.
The content of this remarkable nomination highlighted the daily support, care, love, and commitment she devoted to the upbringing and development of her eight children. Dr. Karol Reimann wrote the following about his mother, Ewa:

“My mother raised eight children. Without publicity, without grand declarations, without any need for recognition. Yet from our earliest years, she taught us that education is a value, that knowledge gives people freedom, and that personal development is a form of responsibility—not only for oneself, but also for other people. She cared for our education with extraordinary consistency and dedication. She believed in us even when we doubted ourselves. Today, each of her children has completed higher education, and some of us have continued along the academic path, earning doctoral degrees. But the most important thing is that it was never only about diplomas or titles for her. She wanted us to be people who were wise not only through knowledge but also through our hearts. She wanted us to be able to use our knowledge for the benefit of others. Today, it can be said that her work as a parent has had an impact far beyond our family alone. By raising children who are open to learning, social responsibility, and the need to take action, she also indirectly helped shape the reality around us—the reality experienced today by patients, students, colleagues, and entire communities who encounter us in their own lives.I believe that this is precisely where the extraordinary power of upbringing lies.”
The Korczak Award Committee recognized the daily efforts of Mrs. Ewa Reimann and presented her with the Korczak Award in the Leaders Award category.
We are proud of Dr. Karol Reimann and congratulate him on his courage. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Ewa Reimann on receiving the Award.
