On 13 August, the Main Beach at Pogoria III in Dąbrowa Górnicza was transformed into an open-air space for learning, experiments and shared fun. The Summer Science Meetings- the 13th Night of Falling Stars - once again brought together participants of all ages around exploring the world, scientific curiosity and the extraordinary summer sky.
Science that brings generations together
Participants were able to watch a water rescue demonstration by WOPR, as well as first-aid demonstrations for people and animals, before testing their knowledge and skills during the Intergenerational Scientific Pentathlon. There was plenty of activity, positive energy and - true to the idea behind the event - science that genuinely brings generations together.
There were also plenty of scientific demonstrations. During the meeting entitled “How Does It Work? The Human Body”, participants could learn more about the mysteries of how the human body functions, while the demonstration “He Stopped the Sun, Moved the Earth” took the audience into the world of astronomy and discoveries that changed our perception of the Universe. Chemistry workshops, during which participants could see science in action, also attracted great interest.

The gravity of joy at Pogoria
The Summer Science Meetings are not only about experiments, however. Intergenerational integration dances held under the slogan “The Gravity of Joy”, together with a beach disco, filled Pogoria III with music, movement and a holiday atmosphere for several hours.

When night fell, we looked to the sky
The culmination of the event came after dark. Dariusz W. Nelle led a scientific presentation that introduced the evening’s astronomical observations. Participants then looked to the sky together in search of the Perseids—one of the most spectacular meteor showers, whose peak falls precisely on August nights.
That evening, two worlds met above Pogoria III: science and wonder at what we still do not fully understand. There were experiments, conversations and shared fun, followed at the end by gazes directed high into the sky.

We would like to thank everyone who spent the day with us and once again showed that science truly knows no age. See you at future meetings!
The Summer Science Meetings are carried out as part of the project “Intergenerational Academy – We Are Connected by Science”. The project is financed from the state budget, allocated by the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the “Social Responsibility of Science III” programme.
