The beginning of the 2026/2027 school year provided an opportunity for important meetings of the region’s educational community. WSB University participated in the ceremonial inauguration of the school year at Stefan Żeromski Secondary School No. 2 in Dąbrowa Górnicza and in the Regional Inauguration of the 2026/2027 School Year in Będzin.
At both events, the University was represented by Professor Marcin Lis, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation with the External Environment at WSB University.
Inauguration of the School Year at Secondary School No. 2 in Dąbrowa Górnicza
The community of Stefan Żeromski Secondary School No. 2 in Dąbrowa Górnicza, particularly the students beginning their secondary education, were welcomed by Professor Marcin Lis and Elżbieta Rudzka, Headteacher of Secondary School No. 2.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives of public life and local government, including Senator of the Republic of Poland Dr Beata Małecka-Libera; Members of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Katarzyna Stachowicz, Mateusz Bochenek and Robert Warwas; Member of the Silesian Regional Assembly Aldona Węgrzynowicz; and Deputy Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza Marek Węgrzynowicz. Representatives of the regional and municipal authorities, educational institutions and social organisations were also present.
One of the most important moments of the inauguration was the pledge taken by first-year students, who officially joined the community of Secondary School No. 2.
The event concluded with a lecture entitled “Stress 4 Help: How to Strengthen Self-Confidence in the New School Year”, delivered by Dr Edyta Nowak-Żółty, Dean of WSB University in Cieszyn.
The ceremony marked another important dimension of the cooperation between WSB University and Stefan Żeromski Secondary School No. 2 - one of the most highly regarded secondary schools in the region.
Regional Inauguration of the 2026/2027 School Year in Będzin
Professor Marcin Lis also represented WSB University at the Regional Inauguration of the 2026/2027 School Year, held at the Nowak-Mosty Arena Będzin Sports and Entertainment Hall.
The event was attended by representatives of the education sector, local government, public administration, uniformed services and higher education institutions, as well as, above all, school and preschool pupils. Approximately 540,000 pupils began the new school year in the Silesian Voivodeship.
The invited guests included Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland; Henryk Kiepura, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Education; members of parliament; Adam Zaczkowski, Deputy Voivode of Silesia; and Katarzyna Błaszczyk-Domańska, Director General of the Silesian Voivodeship Office in Katowice.
The regional inauguration provided an opportunity to emphasise the importance of education and the role of teachers in shaping future generations. During the ceremony, individuals who had made particularly significant contributions to education were also honoured with Medals of the Commission of National Education and the Honorary Badge of Merit for the Silesian Voivodeship.
WSB University’s presence at both inauguration ceremonies highlights the University’s commitment to cooperation with schools, local governments and educational institutions, as well as to initiatives supporting the development of education in the region.
