Representatives of the Silesian Medical Chamber visited WSB University. The meeting was attended by Dr. Przemysław Rosak, MD, PhD - newly elected President of the District Medical Council in Katowice, Piotr Ziętek - Member of the Presidium of the District Medical Council in Katowice, as well as Alicja van der Coghen - Press Spokesperson of the Silesian Medical Chamber. WSB University was represented by Rector Prof. Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, Prof. Katarzyna Szczepańska-Woszczyna, Vice-Rector for Science and Education, and Dr. Adam Kabiesz, MD, PhD, Dean of the Collegium Medicum of WSB University.
The meeting had a working character and provided an opportunity to exchange experiences regarding the long-standing, fruitful cooperation between WSB University and the Silesian Medical Chamber. It also created a space for discussions on the possibilities of implementing further joint initiatives in the field of medical education and the development of competencies among healthcare professionals.
The guests were presented with the infrastructure of the Collegium Medicum - the Medical Faculty of WSB University, including the Prof. Kazimierz Imieliński Medical Simulation Center. Representatives of the Silesian Medical Chamber had the opportunity to become familiar with the modern teaching and simulation facilities, which in recent years have been significantly expanded and equipped with advanced technologies supporting the education of medical students.
Planned investments in the development of the Medical Simulation Center were also presented. Later this year, the infrastructure of the Collegium Medicum - the Medical Faculty of WSB University will be expanded with additional advanced laboratories and medical simulators, enabling education in conditions as close as possible to the real clinical environment. Among the most important investments are a modern clinical simulation laboratory for procedural and surgical training with an operating theatre, as well as a clinical intensive care simulation laboratory replicating the working conditions of an Intensive Care Unit.
WSB University currently provides education in the Medical Doctor programme, which received a positive evaluation from the Polish Accreditation Committee without recommendations for the full six-year education cycle, confirming the high quality of the University’s preparation for educating future physicians.
“The development of the Collegium Medicum – the Medical Faculty of WSB University is based on close cooperation with the regional medical community, modern educational infrastructure, and a practical model of educating future healthcare professionals. Cooperation with the Silesian Medical Chamber is of particular importance to us, as it allows us to combine the academic perspective with the experience of the medical community,” emphasized Prof. Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, Rector of WSB University.
For years, WSB University has cooperated with the Silesian Medical Chamber in the area of educational and conference initiatives, among others. The Silesian Medical Chamber has granted its patronage to the MBA in Healthcare postgraduate programme delivered at WSB University in cooperation with EY Academy of Business. Representatives of the Silesian Medical Chamber also participate in scientific and expert events organised by the University, including conferences devoted to healthcare issues, medical law, and the functioning of medical professions.
