New technologies, legal regulations and a culture of responsibility in the workplace – these were the topics discussed by experts during the 2nd Silesian Debate on Occupational Safety, which took place on 5 March 2026 at the International Congress Centre in Katowice.
The debate brought together representatives of public administration, business, the academic community, and occupational health and safety (OHS) specialists. The discussions focused on the challenges of the contemporary labour market – in particular the role of process automation, new technologies, and changing legal regulations in managing safety within organisations.
WSB University was represented by Prof. Marcin Lis – Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation with the Environment, and Dr Eng. Krystian Mączka, a specialist in cybercrime and the Data Protection Officer of WSB University.
The programme of the event also included expert panels, presentations of good practices, and an Oxford-style debate on the impact of technology on the future of work. The meeting became a space for exchanging experiences and dialogue between the academic community and practitioners from the occupational health and safety sector.

Dr Eng. Krystian Mączka took part in a session devoted to technological innovations in industry, during which the application of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in industrial plants was discussed, as well as their importance in identifying threats and supporting safety management systems in enterprises.
The participation of WSB University in the debate is part of the development of cooperation with the National Association of Occupational Health and Safety Service Employees – Katowice Branch, aimed at joint activities supporting the development of education, research, and the training of specialists in the field of occupational safety.
In response to the growing needs of the labour market, WSB University also offers postgraduate studies in Occupational Health and Safety, preparing participants to perform the roles of specialists and managers responsible for organising and supervising OHS systems in enterprises.
