WSB University Extends Congratulations to the 1st General Secondary School in Olkusz on the Occasion of Its 110th Anniversary
On 17 June 2026, celebrations marking the 110th anniversary of the 1st General Secondary School named after King Casimir the Great in Olkusz and the 105th anniversary of the school being granted its name took place in Olkusz. The event brought together students, teachers, school staff, alumni, representatives of public authorities, local institutions, and invited guests.
Among the participants was Prof. Marek Krzystanek, MD, PhD, DSc, a lecturer at WSB University and an alumnus of the 1st General Secondary School in Olkusz. On behalf of the Rector of WSB University, Prof. Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, and the entire academic community, he presented a congratulatory letter to Irena Majda, Principal of the 1st General Secondary School in Olkusz, on the occasion of the school’s anniversary. Both Prof. Marek Krzystanek and Principal Irena Majda are graduates of this distinguished Olkusz educational institution.
The 1st General Secondary School named after King Casimir the Great in Olkusz is a partner school of WSB University, which made the presence of the University’s representative at the anniversary celebrations particularly meaningful. It was an expression of recognition for the school’s traditions, its educational achievements, and the shared commitment to supporting the development of young people and shaping their future educational pathways.
In his speech, Prof. Marek Krzystanek emphasised the importance of the school as a place that shapes not only knowledge, but also attitudes, values, and life choices of successive generations of graduates. He also referred to the personal significance of participating in the anniversary celebrations, highlighting the special bond that connects alumni with their alma mater.
His speech was met with an exceptionally enthusiastic response from the audience and was interrupted by applause several times, becoming one of the memorable highlights of the anniversary gala.
The 110th anniversary of the 1st General Secondary School in Olkusz provided an opportunity for celebration, reflection, and shared memories, while also underscoring the importance of education in building and strengthening the local community.
