New ambitions, great opportunities, and a bold outlook on the future! WSB University in Kraków has begun the 2026/2027 academic year, opening another chapter in the development of its academic community. The inauguration ceremony, held on 20 October 2026, combined academic tradition with a modern approach to education, research, and the challenges of the contemporary world.
Students were at the heart of the event – both those just beginning their academic journey and those distinguished by their academic and sporting achievements, as well as their involvement in University life. Representatives of academia, public administration, partner institutions, and the social and economic community were also in attendance.
This year’s inauguration not only symbolically marked the beginning of another year of education but also provided an opportunity to look to the future. A particular highlight of the programme was the inaugural lecture delivered by Professor Marcin Lis, entitled “Humans and AI – the Beginning of an Extraordinary Relationship”, addressing one of the most significant technological transformations of our time.
The formal part of the ceremony began with the entrance of the academic procession to the strains of “Gaudeamus Igitur”, the presentation of the WSB University standard, and the performance of the national anthem.
On behalf of Her Magnificence Professor Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, Rector of WSB University, the new academic year was formally opened by Professor Marcin Lis - Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and External Relations at WSB University.

Matriculation – New Students Join the WSB University Community
One of the most solemn moments of the ceremony was the matriculation of first-year students, marking their formal admission to the academic community of WSB University.
Representatives of students on first-cycle degree programmes and long-cycle master’s degree programmes, including recipients of the Professor Henryk Walica Academic Scholarship and outstanding secondary school graduates, took the solemn academic oath. They pledged to persevere in acquiring knowledge, develop their personalities, abide by the principles of the academic community, and uphold the dignity and honour of a WSB University student.
The matriculation of international students beginning their studies at WSB University also held particular significance. The oath-taking ceremony was also conducted in English, emphasising the University’s international character and its openness to students from different countries and cultural backgrounds.

Professor Marcin Lis performed the formal act of matriculation, symbolically welcoming the new students into the academic community. This moment marked the beginning of the next stage of their education, gaining experience, developing their interests, and building relationships that will accompany them throughout the coming years of study.
The ceremony was rounded off by the choir’s performance of the traditional academic hymn “Gaude Mater Polonia”.
