WSB University Launches Poland’s First Academic Home Army Historical Club

WSB University and the World Association of Home Army Soldiers - Silesian District have established the first academic Home Army Historical Club in Poland. The cooperation agreement was signed by the Rector of WSB University, Prof. Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, and Jan Musiał, President of the Silesian District of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers.

Until now, Home Army Historical Clubs, operating under the "Relay Race" (Sztafeta) programme, had been established primarily in schools. WSB University is the first higher education institution in the country to bring this initiative to the academic level.

The aim of the Club is to disseminate knowledge about the history of the Polish Underground State and the Home Army, foster patriotic attitudes, and develop historical and civic awareness. Its activities will focus on lectures, debates, meetings, and educational events devoted to the history of Poland, with particular emphasis on the legacy of the Home Army and the Polish Underground State. The agreement stipulates that its core mission is the "Transmission of the Ethos" of the Home Army to future generations and paying tribute to the heroes of the struggle for independence.

The Club's Management Board is headed by Prof. Marek Walancik as President. The positions of Vice-Presidents are held by Dr Dariusz Trojszczak and Wiktoria Kolano, while Dr Aleksandra Klimek-Lakomy serves as Secretary. Aleksandra Zdańska has been appointed Coordinator of the Academic Club.

The inaugural meeting was also attended by First Lieutenant Ryszard Świeboda, MSc Eng., Vice-President of the Silesian District of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, and Dr Grzegorz Matuszek.

The Club will cooperate with the World Association of Home Army Soldiers on joint academic, educational, and patriotic initiatives. Its establishment marks another step in the development of the academic and social activities of WSB University and confirms the University's commitment to fostering civic attitudes, social responsibility, and respect for the national heritage.
