WSB University Researchers Among the World’s TOP 2% Most Influential Scientists

Professor Zdzisława Dacko-Pikiewicz, Rector of WSB University; Professor Katarzyna Szczepańska-Woszczyna, Vice-Rector for Research and Education; Professor Jan Małecki of the Department of Transport and Computer Science; and Professor Aleksy Kwiliński of the Department of Management are among the prestigious group of the world’s top 2% most frequently cited scientists.

The inclusion of WSB University researchers in the TOP 2% ranking confirms the international recognition of their academic achievements and the significant impact of their research.

This year’s edition of the conference brought together 59 scientists representing 15 research and academic institutions. WSB University was represented at the event by Professor Marcin Lis, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation with the External Environment, and Professor Katarzyna Chruzik, Chair of the Scientific Discipline Council for Safety Engineering.

The conference was held on 8 September 2026 in the Chamber Hall of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. The programme covered topics from various fields of science - from bioenergetics and artificial intelligence to issues related to exerting influence in business. The proceedings concluded with a round-table discussion.

What Is the TOP 2% Ranking?

The group comprising the world’s top 2% most influential scientists is selected on the basis of bibliometric indicators relating to citations of publications and overall academic achievements. Researchers are assessed in two categories: their impact during the previous year and their impact throughout their entire academic careers.

The methodology used to compile the ranking was developed in 2019 by researchers affiliated with Stanford University, Elsevier and SciTech Strategies. Inclusion in the TOP 2% indicates the broad reach and international significance of a researcher’s academic achievements.

The Third Edition of the Prestigious Meeting of Scientists

The first edition of the Scientific Conference of the World’s Best Scientists - TOP 2% was organised in 2024 as part of the celebrations marking Katowice’s designation as the 2024 European City of Science. Since then, the event has continued as a forum where scientists representing various fields and disciplines can meet and exchange experiences.

The institutions represented at this year’s edition included the Polish Academy of Sciences, the University of Silesia in Katowice, the Medical University of Silesia, the University of Economics in Katowice, the Silesian University of Technology and WSB University.

WSB University’s participation in the conference and the inclusion of its researchers in the TOP 2% ranking underline the University’s strong position within the national and international academic community.
