Ten participants of the project "Teaching Excellence - Academic Staff Development Programme of WSB University" took part in a study visit to Aalto Design Factory - one of the world’s most recognized centres for developing innovative approaches to education, operating at Aalto University in Finland.
The aim of the visit was to explore good practices related to designing interdisciplinary educational experiences, implementing the Design-Based Education approach, and developing teaching methods that support future-oriented competencies.
The programme included workshops, meetings with university representatives, visits to modern prototyping facilities and creative workspaces, as well as presentations of solutions applied at Aalto Design Factory. Participants had the opportunity to learn about challenge-based learning methods, interdisciplinary projects, and models of cooperation between students and external partners.
For more than 15 years, Aalto Design Factory has been developing an educational model in which students from different disciplines work together to solve real social and business problems. This approach responds to the challenges of the contemporary world, where effective problem-solving requires combining knowledge and perspectives from various fields and disciplines.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the future of higher education and the changes driven by the development of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and sustainable development.
The experiences and inspirations gained during the visit will be used to further develop innovative teaching methods at WSB University, particularly in the areas of designing challenge-based learning activities, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and strengthening future competencies within study programmes.
The visit represents another stage in WSB University’s consistently implemented efforts to enhance the quality of education and to introduce modern, student-centred teaching methods that respond to the needs of the contemporary labour market and current social challenges.
