WSB University at CERN – European Organization for Nuclear Research
The visit of WSB University representatives to CERN in Geneva marked another important step in strengthening teaching quality, internationalization, and cross-sectoral collaboration. As part of the "Teaching Excellence" project, the university’s delegation led by Dr. Sabina Ratajczak, Vice-Rector for Development, gained firsthand insight into one of the world’s most prestigious scientific institutions.
WSB University at the Heart of European Science
The visit took place under the EU-funded "Teaching Excellence" initiative, which aims to foster modern teaching competences among academic staff. The program, developed with partners from Italy, Romania, Greece, and Portugal, focuses on promoting innovative teaching methods, digitization in education, and the development of soft skills in the academic environment.
During their stay, participants had the opportunity to meet CERN’s research teams, learn about the educational initiatives run by the organization, and take part in workshops focused on science communication and research-based teaching.
Inspiration Turned into Implementation
The experience at CERN served not only as a prestigious opportunity but also as a source of inspiration for implementing advanced teaching practices back at home. Participants highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary learning and strengthening future-ready competences in higher education.
CERN – A Global Science Hub
CERN, the world’s largest particle physics laboratory, was founded in 1954 and currently includes 23 member states and hundreds of partner institutions. It is globally renowned for groundbreaking discoveries in particle physics, including the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. CERN is home to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the most powerful particle accelerator in the world, enabling scientists to explore the fundamental structure of the universe.
But beyond pure science, CERN is also a space of educational and technological collaboration—where innovation extends into industry, medicine, and education. It brings together scientists, engineers, IT professionals, educators, and project managers from around the globe, fostering a unique environment of learning and knowledge exchange.
