Stowarzyszenie Inicjatywa Obywatelska Pro Civium

The Pro Civium Civic Initiative Association was established in 2018 as a general association, operating remotely from the outset. The impetus for its establishment was the need for practical, accessible support for people experiencing stigmatisation, social exclusion and life crises - in particular those who, for various reasons, fall outside the scope of traditional support organisations.

Pro Civium’s initial activities focused on post-release support and on preparing ex-prisoners and their loved ones for reintegration into society. Even at this early stage, the organisation adopted the principle that effective support must combine knowledge, responsibility and empowerment, rather than relying solely on ad hoc intervention

  1. The aim of Pro Civium’s work is to provide comprehensive psychological, legal, career guidance and educational support to people affected by, or at risk of, stigmatisation and social exclusion. These activities are designed to strengthen these individuals’ agency, sense of security and ability to participate fully in society.
  2. The aim of the Programme is to enable students of subjects such as law, psychology and education to gain the solid practical experience necessary for their future careers, through direct contact with people experiencing exclusion and stigmatisation and by taking part in real-life support activities.
  3. The Programme aims to raise public awareness of the problem of stigmatisation and exclusion of others, and to highlight that these phenomena can affect anyone — ourselves or our loved ones. The programme highlights the mechanisms of self-stigmatisation and the difficulty of offering support to others, even when we ourselves are experiencing exclusion, whilst encouraging reflection, empathy and an attempt to understand others.
  4. The aim of the Programme is to encourage the public to engage in public, social and civic affairs through the development of volunteering and pro bono activities. Social engagement fosters empathy, responsibility and solidarity, whilst at the same time having a tangible impact on improving the quality of life for both those involved and entire communities.
