Classes in the Medical programme are conducted by experienced specialists and practitioners with many years of experience from highly specialised healthcare institutions cooperating with WSB University, representing many different fields of medicine: anaesthesiology, family medicine, endocrinology, diabetology, surgery, orthopaedics, haematology, radiotherapy, psychiatry, dentistry, as well as pathomorphology, anatomy, epidemiology, and biostatistics.
Outstanding professors with impressive scientific achievements strive to convey to young adepts of medicine what is important in scientific and clinical life and to sensitise them to situations they may encounter in their future medical practice. The academic teaching staff prepare students for contact with patients who very often require interdisciplinary care.
The programme includes education in the fields of:
- Morphological sciences (e.g., anatomy, histology, embryology)
- Scientific foundations of medicine (e.g., biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry with elements of chemistry, physiology, elements of pathophysiology)
- Pre-clinical sciences (e.g., genetics, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology with toxicology)
- Behavioural and social sciences (e.g., sociology of medicine, medical psychology, history of medicine, English language)
- Non-surgical clinical sciences (e.g., paediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, dermatology, oncology, infectious diseases, rehabilitation)
- Surgical sciences (e.g., general surgery, anaesthesiology)
- Legal and organisational aspects of medicine (e.g., hygiene, epidemiology, public health, medical law, forensic medicine)
Collegium Medicum of WSB University guarantees unique training for future physicians, ensuring thorough preparation for the use of modern techniques in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
Students of the Medical programme have broad access to research equipment, diverse patient populations, and modern technology used in both diagnostics and therapy, such as the innovative Aeos surgical exoscope, non-invasive radiological procedures using the Gamma Knife, modern imaging diagnostic equipment such as CT and MRI scanners, and the advanced gamma radiation detector Gamma Finder. In partner hospitals, audiovisual rooms enable real-time transmission of images from operating theatres and procedure rooms, allowing students to observe procedures as they are performed.
Clinical classes and professional placements for students of the Medical programme are provided in 14 partner healthcare institutions with an established position and multidisciplinary activity, providing services in the following areas:
- Providing 24-hour inpatient hospital treatment services in all fields, including specialised areas
- Providing inpatient and 24-hour healthcare services in medical rehabilitation, psychiatric care, and addiction treatment
- Providing outpatient healthcare services in:
- primary healthcare
- specialist outpatient care
- Conducting emergency medical services, including specialised and basic emergency response teams
- Preparing students in oncological treatment to provide services in radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy, with access to nuclear medicine departments equipped with PET
- Providing broad access to laboratory diagnostics with specialised laboratories in microbiology, tumour markers, immunodiagnostics, toxicology, parasitology, haematology, biochemistry, and others
- Enabling access to departments of pathomorphology, anatomical pathology units, and histopathology laboratories with mortuaries located in five locations, guaranteeing access to dissection rooms and allowing students to participate as observers in autopsies
The study programme includes compulsory and elective classes that enable students to acquire not only specialised theoretical knowledge but also practical skills and social competences, including proper communication with patients and the ability to work in various therapeutic and research teams.
In the sixth year of studies, practical clinical teaching takes place in hospital wards in the fields of internal medicine, paediatrics, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, family medicine, and the specialty chosen by the student.
