WSB University Empowers Women in Sofia

School of Happiness in Sofia – AWSB Crosses Borders for Women

"How can we effectively reach for happiness?" – this was the question addressed to women in Bulgaria by Dr. Edyta Nowak-Żółty and MSc Aneta Gawlas from the WSB University during a workshop held at the Polish Institute in Sofia.

As part of International Women's Day celebrations, a five-hour workshop titled "The Empowered and Happy Woman" was held in the Bulgarian capital. It was initiated by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Sofia and the Consular and Polonia Department. The event brought together representatives of the Polish community, including local residents, teachers from the Polish school, lecturers from Sofia University, and staff of the Polish Embassy.

The workshops were led by two lecturers from the WSB University who traveled to Sofia at the invitation of Vice-Consul Marta Kosowska. The meeting opened with the question: "What good or happy thing happened to you today?" From seemingly simple reflections—such as a smile, a conversation, or a lazy morning—a deeper narrative emerged about the importance of everyday happiness, which often goes unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of life.

The workshop addressed themes familiar to many women: social pressure, the pursuit of perfection, and the multiple roles they juggle daily. Participants eagerly discussed what happiness means to them, how to build their sense of agency, how to set boundaries, and how to care for their mental, emotional, and overall well-being.

The event was enriched by the inspiring story of Ms. Cole—a senior from New York who experienced the happiest years of her life after turning eighty. Her daily celebration of small rituals and gratitude-filled approach became a symbol of "happiness habits", which—according to the workshop leaders—account for 25% of our sense of fulfillment and are fully within everyone's reach.

The exceptional nature of the event was reflected in the enthusiastic thanks received by the organizers. "A very uplifting and optimistic meeting!", "The girls are wonderful, inspiring, and energizing", "I really needed this" – wrote the participants.

A letter from the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Bulgaria to Dr. Edyta Nowak-Żółty stated: "Your work, professionalism, effort, commitment, and kindness made this meeting unique and unforgettable for all participants. The training you conducted was very well received by the Polish community in Sofia, as evidenced by the praise and thanks conveyed to the Polish consuls."

Vice-Consul Marta Kosowska summarized the event by saying: "Your work, professionalism, effort, commitment, and kindness made this meeting truly special and unforgettable. The lecture-workshop format kept participants engaged for the full five hours. It was beautiful, insightful, and genuine."
