WSBU at the Heart of Industrial Transformation – Dr. Krzysztof Wrana Appointed to the White Paper Advisory Team

Dr. Krzysztof Wrana, Deputy Director of the WSBU Centre for Regional Development, has been appointed by Minister of Industry Marzena Czarnecka to join the prestigious Advisory Team for the White Paper on Transformation – a strategic body tasked with developing one of the most important policy documents shaping the future of coal-dependent regions in Poland.

The White Paper on Transformation aims to set the direction for EU cohesion and energy transition policies. It will identify key development barriers and propose tools and recommendations to support a successful shift from a coal-based economy to a modern, green industrial framework. The document is expected to become a key reference point for the European Commission and may influence the future of entire macro-regions.

For many years, Dr. Wrana has combined academic work with implementing real-world change in cities, regions, and institutions. He has authored over 100 strategic, planning, and evaluation studies for major Upper Silesian cities – including strategies for local development, smart cities, revitalization, and spatial planning.

He has co-authored strategic documents for Katowice, Bytom, Gliwice, Rybnik, Dąbrowa Górnicza, and also for regional development policies in health, tourism, and post-industrial regeneration.

Beyond academia, Dr. Wrana actively contributes to national and regional institutions. He is:

  • Secretary of the Polish Academy of Sciences’ Commission for the Future of Upper Silesia,
  • Member of the Voivodeship Urban and Architectural Committee,
  • Chief Consultant for the update of the Silesian Voivodeship Development Strategy.

His knowledge and experience are now recognized also at the governmental level.
