WSB University's research team, led by Professor Adrian Siadkowski and composed of PhD Łukasz Szymankiewicz and PhD candidate Czesław Konieczny, conducted field research in Algeciras, Spain.
The research in Algeciras included study visits and interviews with the vicar and priests of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Palma. The interviews make an important contribution to the research and activities on the protection of places of worship from terrorist attacks carried out by the Consortium of the European Union funded project 'ProSPeReS'. The research in Algeciras concerned the terrorist attack carried out in this parish on 23 January 2023 by a radicalised young Moroccan who killed 1 person and wounded 4. The meeting made it possible to initiate further cooperation and to present the products of the 'ProSPeReS' project, in particular the VAT (Vulnerability Assessment Tool) and the Security-by-Design guidebook, which will be helpful in developing prevention mechanisms and enhancing security of religious buildings.
